Chip Wilson is a roots music singer/songwriter from New Orleans. Described as a "guitar virtuoso" (Stephen Kiernan, Burlington Free Press Editorial Writer), Chip has played in the US, South America and Europe, performing a mix of classic and original American music: jazz, blues, folk, country, R & B and funk.
Chip has played at the Winter and Summer Umbria Jazz Festivals, The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the Discover Jazz Festival, The French Quarter Festival, the Portsmouth Blues Festival, the Champlain Valley Festival and more. He is scheduled to perform at Umbria Jazz 2008 in Perugia, Italy. A retired guitarmaker, Chip Wilson writes for Vintage Guitar Magazine as well as other print publications. With 5 CDs of originals (his CD A Jumpin' Somethin' was nominated for an Offbeat Magazine "Best of the Beat" Award), Chip will release a solo CD, called Last Love Song in 2008. Recorded in Ponchatoula, LA, by Grant Curry, the CD will feature art by former New Orleans resident Valerie Rosenberg, and photos by Christer and Marco Monesi. With the exception of one bass part added by Grant Curry, the CD features live-in-the-studio solo performances, as well as a few tunes with light overdubs or percussion loops. REVIEWS "His name is Chip Wilson, and this guy, he plays crazy good." Chris Rose, Times-Picayune Columnist Cascades of sound erupt as furiously propulsive basslines throb behind his high, ghostly vocals. Chip is radiating pleasure through the back room…A packed house erupts in applause after every tune." Marc Stone, Offbeat Magazine Music Writer "Wilson is the real deal." "He boasts a fluid touch, a deep understanding of his instrument's dynamics…and a vast repertoire." Scott Jordan, Gambit Weekly Music Writer "He's got that sweet voice that effortlessly floats into falsetto and guitar work that makes even non-guitarists gasp and blink…connecting with the audience with style, humility and warmth." George Thomas, Public Radio Deejay "Real magic when he steps to the microphone…prodigious talent." Aaron Wilkinson, Pensacola News Journal "Wilson fits well into the lineage of New Orleans music."
